Today’s writing exercise is a Task 2 question that appeared on IELTS exams in 2017.
Last week we looked at the “discuss both sides and give your opinion” format, and so this week we will turn to an “Agree or disagree” question.
For this type of question it is essential that you should give your opinion in the introduction. The introduction also needs an opening sentence, and a paraphrase of the question.
The first body paragraph should discuss your own opinion Do not be tempted to start by discussing the other side – first justify your own position on the question. Include an example, but make sure that the example is not the last sentence of your paragraph.
The second body paragraph could either continue to support your view, or could acknowledge an opposing view. However, if you choose to write about another view you MUST then explain why you do not find it a compelling one.
In your conclusion you should not introduce any new arguments, and should try to link back to your opening sentence in some way.
So, now to our question;
It is often said that governments spend too much money on projects to protect wildlife, while there are other problems that are more important.
Do you agree or disagree?
As always, feedback and comments are welcome.
